MI organizes Online Training on Small and Micro-scale Applications of Biomass in Myanmar
February 3, 2023
As part of the “Sustainable and Smart Agricultural Supply Chain Development in Mekong Countries” project sponsored by the Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF), Mekong Institute (MI) organized an online training session on “Small and Micro-scale Applications of Biomass” on February 3, 2023. The supplementary session was in response to the interest expressed by participants from Myanmar to learn more about biomass technology.
This one-day activity was a continuation of the “Smart Renewable Energy Technologies for Agricultural Supply Chains in the Mekong Region” training course, which was held from November 21 to 25, 2022. To help formulate country action plans, the participants from each country were instructed to select one technology from the six that were being offered, namely Smart Solar Roof Technology, Tidal Hydrokinetic Energy, Wind Power Technology, Drones in Agriculture, Biomass Energy, and Electric Forklift for Agricultural Warehouse.
“Nowadays, the world is facing an energy crisis, global warming, and an economic crisis. To tackle this, understanding and awareness on why renewable energy is necessary for a better future remains critical for the sustainable transition,” stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pisit Maneechot, Head of the NU Smart City Project, School of Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Technology (SGtech), Naresuan University. “To strengthen and transfer technologies to the community, we need to enhance the basic knowledge starting from its processes and how it links with energy, the environment, the economy, and education as a whole,” he stressed.
The participants were introduced to biomass energy, how to identify challenges and barriers, how to apply and operationalize the technology, the various types of homemade biomass energy, the social and environmental impacts of using small amounts of biomass energy in households, and success case studies.
Besides Myanmar participants, those from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet Nam also joined the session to understand more about biomass technology.
It is anticipated that more renewable energy technologies will be applied following the training, which will considerably help the Mekong countries cut down on their energy consumption and create effective agricultural supply networks.
