Visit from the Line of Officers School, Naval Education Department, Royal Thai Navy, June 18, 2012

On the morning of Monday, 18 June, 67 mid-ranking navy officers of the Line of Officers School, a section of the Naval Education Department, visited the Mekong Institute to learn more about MI and its work in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

Several officers from the school took part in the event which included a question and answer session by MI Director, Dr. Suchat Katima focusing on Thailands integration into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Participants participated enthusiastically in the session with Dr. Suchat, voicing common concerns about AEC integration. Dr. Suchat also dispelled many of the longstanding misconceptions about the region and shed light on the correct way to overcome issues which citizens and governments in the post-2015 economic environment will undoubtedly face.

The session also included addressed by Captain Gowit Inprohm, head of the Line of Officers School and other MI staff. Ms. Pornwilai Pumira, Associate Program Manger at MI, gave a concise presentation, outlining MIs shifting focus and the role of human resource development (HRD) and capacity building in preparation for AEC integration.
