Executive Exposure Visit on Trade and Investment Facilities along EWEC and Signing of MoU with Foreign Affairs Committee of Yunnan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC

Mekong Institute organized a 10-day Executive Exposure Visit on trade and investment facilities along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) for 9 officials from the Yunnan Provincial Government from 27 August to 5 September 2010. Partnering with Yunnan Provincial Committee of Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference (YPC CPPCC), the participants visited various border crossing points and custom offices, and held discussion with government and business people from provincial chambers of commerce. Starting from Mae Sot, the group traveled to Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Kalasin and Mukdahan in Thailand, and crossed to Lao PDR to visit the Savan-Seno Special Economic Zone. The group also visited the Lao Bao Special Economic Zone and two ports at Chan May and Danang in Vietnam.

To consolidate the relationship and further the collaboration between MI and the partnering agency, MI had signed a MoU with Foreign Affairs Committee of YPC CPPCC in Savannakhet on 2 September 2010. The ceremony was presided by Dr. Suchat Katima, MI Director, and Mr. He Yi, Director of Office of Foreign Affairs Committee, YPC CPPCC. The two parties will cooperate to promote research on GMS development and economic integration, and initiate policy dialogue for the development of business associations and entrepreneurs.
